Clever Boys return to winning ways
Bidvest Wits returned to winning ways in the Absa Premiership on Friday.
The Clever Boys defeated AmaZulu 2-1 at FNB Stadium to move up to fourth place on the log standings with five games remaining.
After a goalless first half, Bidvest Wits hit the front with 58 minutes on the clock. Usuthu failed to deal with Zitha Macheke’s cross and 19-year-old Rowan Human pounced on the rebound to score his maiden professional goal.
Human has now scored for the Clever Boys at every age level: from U13 up until the first team. The young forward was promoted to the club’s Premier Soccer League side earlier this season after setting the MultiChoice Diski Challenge alight.
Head coach Gavin Hunt then introduced Deon Hotto from the bench and the Namibian made an immediate impact. Man of the match Phathutshedzo Nange played the winger through on goal and he made no mistake, finding the back of the net with only his third touch of the game.
AmaZulu pulled a goal back through former Bidves Wits forward Lehlonolono Majoro, but it was too little too late for Usuthu.
The Clever Boys return to action on Monday with a trip to TUKS Stadium to take on Maritzburg United.
