Arrows hold Clever Boys to goalless draw
Bidvest Wits huffed and puffed but failed to find a way through a resolute Golden Arrows defence at FNB Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
As a result, both teams remain winless in the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) bio-bubble and in fifth and ninth place in the Absa Premiership respectively.
Arrows started the game like a house on fire and were only denied the game’s opener by the woodwork in the third minute. Michael Gumede was the unlucky player to see his his attempt canon off the post before Divine Lunga watched his follow-up shot brilliantly saved by Ricardo Goss.
Mxolisi Macuphu then warmed up the woodwork at the other end of the pitch in the 21st minute. Cole Alexander brilliantly picked out the forward who had Sifiso Mlungwana beaten but not the crossbar.
The Clever Boys striker hit the same crossbar two minutes before the break. Deon Hotto’s left-footed cross was met powerfully by Macuphu but again the post came to Abafana Bes’thende’s rescue.
Bidvest WIts dominated most of the action following the break, but Arrows created the best chance in the 68th minute. Superb interplay between Seth Parusnath and Knox Mutizwa allowed the latter a clear sight of goal, but Goss pulled off another superb save as the two teams settled for a point apiece.
The teams will return to Absa Premiership action on Friday. Arrows will host Black Leopards at Emirates Airline Park, Bidvest Wits will welcome AmaZulu to FNB Stadium.
